Thoughts about Christmas

I know updates have been sporadic lately. We're dealing with the holidays, Hubby's dying aunt, and a couple of sick kids around here.

I didn't brave the crowds on Black Friday. I find the crazy-ass race for a $5 waffle maker to verge on insanity. I'd rather live without waffles, or give someone a nice homemade gift instead.

I do most of my Christmas shopping online, but I did venture out Monday to buy a few things that are just easier to get in stores. Grabbed a couple of art supplies for some of the kids on my list. Snagged a few toys to donate to Toys for Tots. Scored myself a sweet gift pack of Pure Grace by Philosophy scented body wash and lotion. It was an impulse purchase, but I immediately fell in love when I smelled it.

Made a 72-Hour Kit for my friend's car. She travels up and down the road a lot. Bought another one for another friend, and now am thinking that I gave her one last year. Ugh. Will have to ask her.

I feel tired this year, and am not really into the whole season yet. Not sure why. I've been trying to explain to P that Christmas is a celebration of Baby Jesus's birthday. Not sure if she gets it. I think I will make a birthday cake for Jesus on Christmas to kind of cement the idea in her head.

Other then music, I have not hit that real spirit yet this year, have not even started my xmas chocolate making or bath products, at least the soaps are curing.

Sorry to hear you are tired, it certianly seems that you have alot on your plate at the moment..

So how goes your eating out of the pantry this week?

I like the idea of a b-day cake for Jesus's, where I was raised, we had the tradional live action birth story of jesus for every christmas that I can remember, so when you see Mary give birth, it hits home from a young age, and then once you get older, you get to be on stage as part of it, it takes on a very special meaning, or at least it did for me..

I'm right there with you. Just feeling sort of "meh" this year. I did get the outdoor lights hung up about 6 weeks ago, but that's only because I'm lazy when it gets cold.

Love the birthday cake idea.

We picked up a Little People Nativity set when the kids were young and oh how they have played with that over the past 5 or 6 years! Mara has called it the Baby in the Barn since she was about 2 :)

There's a really cool book called The Stable Where Jesus Was Born that we read frequently. Very beautiful pictures and it shows what was going on in Bethlehem the night He was born.

And we also started observing Advent a couple years ago. I'm sure it's not a proper observance, but we light a candle each Sunday and read some scriptures, mainly on the prophecies, the angels, etc. The kids look forward to it each Sunday and it kind of takes the focus off of Santa and presents.
